My husband and I have stayed in both of the cottages that currently exist. I'm glad that they've been popular enough to be profitable and therefore still in operation when we fly home for the holidays! Accommodations in the area leave something to be desired, and this place was a breath of fresh air. I have family in Linton, so having something convenient to them is ideal. The cottages are across the road from the light show that Pleasant Grove Farm puts on every holiday season, and we usually make it a point to drive through and enjoy it a bit. For just us as a couple, the space is perfect - beds to sleep in, a functional kitchen, a full bathroom (with heated floors!), a comfortable common area with a TV and seating, and an electric fireplace. The ceilings are fairly high, which sometimes works against the heating system, but I'm pretty fond of the blankets to help out with any residual chilliness. Beds and seating are all comfortable, and the TV is hooked up to a satellite with almost any channel you could think to watch. The internet connection can be a bit slower than I'm used to, but it's still usable, and if something happens along the way, the caretakers/owners are all a phone call away. The kitchen is fairly complete - you have pots, pans, and some small amount of bakeware, as well as a coffee maker and some spices for the food you'll hopefully make while there. They do leave snacks and drinks in the fridge, but don't forget to pay the honor jar to make it easier for them to do that for other people; just think about what a can of pop would cost if you were paying for it in a larger pack and you'll be on the right track, I think.
We had such a wonderful experience here! Gorgeous cottage and grounds. Fully functional kitchen was so convenient. Like a home away from home! We will definitely be going back in the future.
Very nice place to stay
Love this place, planning on moving there after retirement. So quiet and peaceful.
I'm glad they're successful! I just hope it's always open when I come home for Christmas. :)
In the back yard of Goose Pond, one of the world's best bird migratory stopovers, Pleasant Grove has access to some of Indiana's most pristine wilderness areas. Aside from wildlife watching, you might hunt morels, search for Indian artifacts, fish, hunt or just enjoy a breath of fresh country air. Close by are limestone hills (check out the architecture of most of the county statehouses and the buildings at Indiana University's main Bloomington campus), an impressive train viaduct, the resorts of French Lick, and even Kentucky horse country is easily accessible for a day trip where one can also take in the famous Bourbon Trail-- I have done all of the above. And the people of southern Indiana are very friendly and willing to help. I had eight people stop to ask if they could help me when I got a flat tire in nearby Terre Haute. And the setting and comfort at the Cabin, or the Lake House, could not be more comfortable, nor the hosts more accommodating. I have stayed at both multiple times and have always had a first-rate experience.
